The collective exhibition ‘Circuito das Artes – 10 years’ is a retrospective composed of a selection among the more than 600 artists who participated in the previous editions of the Circuito das Artes – Bahia. The curator of the Circuit, Alejandra Muñoz, wanted this edition as a space for an open debate about what has changed along the years, raising the big question: how the Circuit boosted and gave visibility to several processes and how each artist has contributed for the affirmation of the local scenario? The curatorial proposal is to focus on the various issues concerning our art system, based on the trajectory of the participant artists during these ten years. ”
The work addresses the recent escalation of fascism in the country and the repulse for the red color, related with the left wing ideas. It is a reference to a famous installation created in 1967 by Brazilian conceptual artist Cildo Meirelles, “Red Shift” (Desvio para o Vermelho: Impregnação, Entorno, Desvio” 1967-1984, mixed media). “Red Shift” is composed of 3 rooms filled with red objects to provoke psychological and sensorial impact and it has been assembled in several versions along the time. The work is open to a wide range of interpretations such as ideological symbolisms and as a metaphor for violence and blood.
